Sightings of El Chupacabra
In the September of 1995, Madeleine Tolentino, a Puerto Rican house wife looked out of her window to see a mysterious creature that stood about four feet tall and had long claws sucking the blood out of a goat (Radford). The creature terrified her. The creature left two small holes on the goat's neck. Other reported attacks similar to this were heard of but this was the day the mysterious monster was finally recognized and giving the name El Chupacabra. After this day, many more sightings have been reported, most of them coming from Puerto Rico and other countries in Central America (The History). Although Central America is where most of the sightings of the beast occur, there are many reported sightings coming from the southern states of The United States and some have reached as far north as Wisconsin and Canada (The History). The "Chupacabra" has been caught on tape many times but no one is quite sure if it really is the mythical and terrifying creature that haunts dreams.
Many videos of El Chupacabra, like this one, have been taken. The problem is that most of the time, if not all of the time, the animal featured in these videos are not the legendary Chupacabra. The number of sightings of the monster is misleading due to people thinking they have seen the monster but actually have only seen a coyote infected with mange, like the example explained in the movie clip. Also, the sheriff in this YouTube video explained that the attention that the city was getting from the Chupacabra sighting was good for businesses ("Chupacabra"). That may influence a person enough to make them believe that what they saw was actually El Chupacabra, instead of just another sick coyote.
Early Major Reported Sightings
September 1995, Puerto Rico- Madeleine Tolentino has the first reported sighting of El Chupacabra (Williams).
November 1995, Puerto Rico- After an attack, a local resident spots a creature in the woods. He reported it to look like a monkey but without a tail. By the end of 1995, the creature is thought to have killed up to one thousand farm animals (Williams).
January 1996, United States- Attacks were reported in Isebella County Michigan and Klamath Falls Oregon. These are a couple of the first attacks that are not near Central America. In total, nine baby calves were killed during these two attacks. Earlier attacks in the United States were reported from States located on or close to the boarder (Williams).
May 1996, Mexico- Twenty-three rams were reported dead in one attack. The size of this attack is massive for just one creature, regardless of the actual size. Attacks of this quantity may be why some people believe that there may be more than one Chupacabra living on this planet (Williams).
