Popularity and Apperances
Everybody knows that the two most popular mythical creatures are Big Foot at number one and The Loch Ness Monster as a close second. The race for the third most popular mythical creature was up for grabs until 1995 when a mysterious creature was giving the name El Chupacabra and its popularity skyrocketed. Reports started becoming more and more common as time went on and there was even a sighting of El Chupacabra reported in Russia in 2006 (Chupacabra). This creature went from not having a name and only being known for attacks in early 1995 to being seen in Russia over a span of eleven years. Both mystery and scientific books have been published about El Chupacabra. The most famous scientific book on the creature comes from Skeptic Benjamin Radford. The book titled Tracking the Chupacabra: The Vampire Beast in Fact, Fiction, and Folklore. EL Chupacabra has also made it onto the big screen through films such as Guns of El Chupacabra and Chupacabra: Dark Seas. The monster has even made it onto a film for children in the movie Scooby-Doo and the Monster of Mexico (Chupacabra). A picture of El Chupacabra from the Scooby-Doo movie is seen in the upper right hand corner of this text. In December of 2007, El Chupacabra made its first appearance in a major comic book. A group of Chupacabras were featured in Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four. El Chupacabra was also featured on the History's show, Monster Quest. Monster Quest's show came to Texas in 2008 after the beast was caught on tape (Chupacabra). The monster's presence in Cuero, Texas sparked a wave of "attacks" in the United States that boosted the creature's already skyrocketing popularity.
